Support group for family members

The dynamic will be through in-person meetings in the Miami area. We can also create a virtual group for family members who are in another city.

The idea is to sit in a circle where everyone can see each other's eyes and share experiences among families, creating a space for exchange where no knowledge is exclusive.

The group experience is built on the emerging knowledge of the group. The main tool we have is words, but there will always be room to include interaction exercises.

The reason we're gathered. In a study conducted by scientist Elizabeth Blackburn (Nobel Prize in Medicine 2009) on mothers of space children who were isolated from each other and burdened by their difficulties, the doctor took blood samples and consistently found that in all cases, telomeres were shortened. This means, in the long term, a shortened life expectancy. After this scientist managed to bring these mothers together and have them interact, she took another blood sample and found that in all cases, telomere length grew, reaching normal values.

This tells us that when we can create a space for sharing and listening, people—who are still struggling with their problems—experience a sense of well-being that comes from sharing.
