Coaching

Those of us who have a family member with a neurodiversity trait know we face significant challenges. In addition to the loving and spectacular task of raising a child, we also face enormous challenges in parenting. We, the adults, and family members in general, put all our effort and attention into providing therapies and developmental spaces for those members of our family who need them so much. We feel comforted when we find an activity that helps our child in an area they need to develop; when we find a new option for their psychomotor development.

What about Us?

Who cares for us? How do we find the time and resources to dedicate to ourselves? Is it selfish to want time for ourselves as adults? Time for a partner? Or for family, without needing to gather around difficulties. We often neglect ourselves. And although it may seem paradoxical, we neglect our role as caregivers.

“In the event of a loss of air pressure, masks will fall from the overhead compartments… put yours on first, before helping others.” Why this phrase, heard hundreds of times on airplane flights, makes so much sense to us. If we can't take care of ourselves, we can't take care of others. It's simple and true.

Why coaching?

Because in the coaching space, we first create an environment of trust and safety. No one will judge you for your thoughts or actions. We will encourage you to express your fears, frustrations, doubts, successes, and achievements in your role as a supporter of a family member. We will explore alternatives. We create a space to reflect on your options and support you in making your decisions.

How?

We'll do this virtually, in a dedicated time slot for you. Ideally, without interruptions or the interruptions that are part of your daily routine. If we're in the same city, and you'd like, we can consider doing an in-person session.

Sessions will last approximately 40 to 50 minutes. We suggest committing to several sessions, as coaching isn't a magical process; it takes time. We also suggest holding sessions weekly or biweekly to ensure continuity.

The coaching space is yours! We'll talk about whatever you decide and stop whenever you need.

Who is it for?

We always think about the parents of children with special needs. Generally, we think about whoever requires the most time and effort. It can be both parents or just one of them. But it can also be a sibling or a grandmother. The idea is that the service can be available to every person who has the beautiful and difficult task of interacting daily with a neurodiverse family member.
